Nexus Capital Fund 1 is the first fund-of-funds manager approved by the New Zealand government under the Active Investor Plus (AIP) program through New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE). Our fund provides a committed capital facility that aligns with AIP investment criteria for migrant investors, allowing them to deploy their funds flexibly over time.

David wang

David WangManaging Partner, Chair of Investment Committee

David Wang began his career at Sanyo Semiconductor (HK) Co. Ltd, gaining early experience in the global technology sector. He later co-founded Zino Ventures in 2016, serving as CEO & Investment Partner of New Zealand’s first Chinese migrant–led venture capital fund. Under his leadership, Zino backed a dozen early-stage SaaS companies, including Wukong Education (Seed–Series B) and Kernel Wealth (Seed–Series A+, now NZ$2.5B AUM).

In 2019, he co-founded the Migrant Investor & Entrepreneur Association (MIEA), a non-profit supported by Immigration New Zealand (INZ), New Zealand Trade & Enterprise (NZTE), and industry partners including leading venture capital and private equity firms. MIEA has since grown to 170+ members across New Zealand’s migrant investor community.

Through Nexus Capital and MIEA, David bridges global capital with top New Zealand private equity funds and empowers the next generation of entrepreneurs.

Trevor ChanterInvestment Partner, Investment Committee Member

Trevor brings over 20 years of experience in financial services, including managing equities, fixed income, and alternative investments. While at BNP Paribas, he was responsible for family offices and a select group of institutional clients. An early proponent of fund-of-funds strategies, Trevor created and managed the investment division of a boutique financial services firm, where he re-launched three multi-asset fund-of-funds that consistently outperformed their benchmarks.

He also spent close to eight years with Immigration New Zealand and New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, where he supported global investor outreach efforts across the UK, Europe, and MENA regions, promoting New Zealand as an investment destination.

Dr. Bruce Wonil Lee, CFAInvestment Partner, Investment Committee Member

Dr. Lee has 38 years of experience in finance, specializing in asset management, ESG, shareholder engagement, and stewardship. As former CEO of Allianz Global Investors Korea, he launched Korea’s first corporate governance and ESG funds. He has held senior roles at global institutions including CLSA, Salomon Smith Barney, UBS, and Nicholas-Applegate. Dr. Lee holds an MBA from Seoul National University and a Ph.D. in Finance from Rutgers University, USA. He has contributed to global standards as a member of the CFA Institute’s Standard and Practice Council, and served on both the Korean and Aotearoa NZ Stewardship Code Committees.

Molly YangOperating Partner

Spent the past 17 years working with international VC and PE funds, including Chinese, U.S.-backed, and NZ fund managers, across both private and government entities. Previous role as Head of Portfolio Management at New Zealand Growth Capital Partners which was a ~$350m fund established by the New Zealand Government in 2002, worked on a wide range of investments including co-investment and fund of funds. Molly is also the director of Mo & Associates Limited, a consultancy firm proving tailored services to VC funds.

Nick currently provides consulting services to business. He previously worked at Immigration New Zealand for 9 years as Director Investment Programme, leading an international team promoting and attracting migrant investors to NZ. Prior to this he was Director, Board and Stakeholder Engagement at Education NZ, the government’s agency for attracting international students. This was directly after 3 years as Director International Affairs at Financial Markets Authority and NZ Securities Commission, where he also managed the Executive Chairmans office.

Sinjat LaiAdvisor for Singapore and Risk Management Committee Member

Sin Jat brings over 25 years of experience in the VC and the Private Capital Market with his roles as General Partner of Pan Pacific Capital, and the Senior VP at GRC SinoGreen Fund III, and investment manager with iGlobe Partner, servicing as IC member for two of the funds.

Prior to investment, he has previously worked with the Singapore government in promoting R&D and its commercialisation, and has built up a strong background working with technology and bringing R&D practice to commercialisation. Sin Jat holds an MBA from UCLA Anderson School of Management and a Bachelor of Engineering from the National University in Singapore.
